The city that never sleeps has moved across the river to the heart of Brooklyn. Whether it’s late night dining, early morning runs along the river, or every activity in between, Downtown Brooklyn has transformed itself into a 24/7 city. Over 12,000 residents live in this fast growing neighborhood–a 50% increase from 2010 and 30 times the population in 2000. The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership estimated another 2,500 will move in by 2013. Downtown Brooklyn’s residential shift to Manhattan-style full service buildings has played an important part (Downtown Brooklyn has grown 2,900%, while the population of Brooklyn overall grew about 5%), as has the increasing number of restaurants and retailers in the area.
